Seek and Find

Last Sunday at church there was a certain passage that was referenced twice. Usually repetition is God's way of getting my attention! I love these verses although usually you only hear someone quote the first one:

'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 'I will be found by you,' declares the LORD... (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

I have always loved that passage, especially the last part. God promises that if we seek Him with our whole hearts, we will find Him! He says that He will be found by us. That almost sounds like He wants to be found, huh?

I immediately thought of the Bug when this passage was shared during a testimony Sunday. Our new game is Hide-n-Seek. Mommy hides behind the recliner in the living room and then I call out to Bug as she crawls around and "seeks" me. I peek out sometimes and she giggles ferociously as she makes her way over to me. It's not that I want to "win" the game by staying hidden, I want Bug to find me!

Sometimes, she gets distracted by a toy or old Cheerio or something on the floor and she stops seeking. Guess what? She can't find Mommy when she's not looking for her!

So many times I feel like God is right behind the recliner, just waiting on me to crawl over and giggle with Him. To tell Him what's going on. To hug His neck. But so often I let crusty Cheerios and fuzzies on the carpet distract me from my true goal.

And He's not hiding maliciously from me. He wants to be found by me.

Oh if only I could get it all together and win this game of Seek and Find!

Excellent. That is the best description we’ve seen of the “seek and find” relationship we have with God. It is a well written reminder of Who we find if we seek without distraction. – Mark & Liz
