Jehovah Jireh

God who Provides.

Abraham called God "Jehovah Jireh" in Genesis 22. It's an amazing story about Abraham being willing to sacrifice his beloved son-- a son he waited years for-- because God asked him to. God provided a ram for Abraham's sacrifice instead.

Since becoming a SAHM, we have definitely encountered Jehovah Jireh! He has provided for us abundantly above what we need and even more than we ask often times.

Hubby and I don't drive new cars, we can't afford to have even basic satellite TV, I strive to save money at the grocery, and we try not to eat out very much-- so I guess by the world's standards we are living a less than average lifestyle. By our standards, we consider ourselves richly blessed (we probably have more than 90% of the world's population), and we have never lacked anything we needed. God is good.

So many women have complained to me that they wish they could "afford" to stay home... or even worse, lament that they wish they did stay home (now it's too late), and my heart breaks for these women. Me staying home, logistically, has never worked out on paper, but here I am! It has taken some faith to trust that God would take care of us if we followed what we believed He was asking of our family.

There have been some amazing moments of faith-building as we've received random... and I mean random checks in the mail. (Get this-- after having Bug, my OB/GYN sent us a $300 check for no apparent reason. I was tempted to call and ask what it was for, but decided just to praise God for the blessing instead!)

This week in our Experiencing God study, as the story of Abraham and Isaac was revisited, I've just been relishing in God as my Provider. He has been so good to me!
