The church on Facebook?

Today was kinda a bummer...
  • We woke up to Bug still running a fever. Which meant no New Years Eve fun with friends, since they have a toddler who could become infected. Blast!
  • My new Crocs broke.
  • My other new shoes didn't really fit me.
  • Hubby's back was also still bothering him.
  • Our house needs some TLC.
  • I have major cabin fever from being couped up since Christmas with a sick 18 month old, a nursing 6 week old, and a hurting Hubs.

It was shaping up to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

I posted my woes on Facebook with a simple "Sheila's sick toddler = no New Years party." (You know, because Heaven forbid I don't let all of the internet know how I'm feeling each day!)

Not much later, some friends had offered to come hang out for New Years here, someone from church offered to drop off some "cheer up" brownies on their way to the party, and a sweet couple called to say they would watch Bug if we wanted to go to the party still. Wowsers!

I was blown away by the practical ways my church family was "one anothering" me. You know...

  • encourage one another and build up one another(I Thessalonians 5:11)
  • you yourselves are taught by God to love one another (I Thessalonians 4:9)
  • seek after that which is good for one another (I Thessalonians 5:15)
  • encourage one another day after day (Hebrews 3:13)
  • let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)
  • fervently love one another from the heart (I Peter 1:22)
  • be hospitable to one another without complaint (I Peter 4:9)
How often do we really "one another" as we ought? I definitely have been challenged to!

Thanks church family! (and Facebook-- who said technology can't better the church?!)

Hey, you don't know me but I'm Erin's sister. I can't sleep and was looking on her blog and saw that you commented 4 hours ago. I clicked on your picture because you look familiar and I think we may have met before...anyhoo, I just want you to know that we have a LOT in common. It's kinda crazy. One of my favorite books is Anne of Green Gables (i'm a redhead) and While You Were Sleeping is my second favorite movie. My favorite author is Francine Rivers and my favorite books of hers are the Mark of the Lion series. I'm in the middle of the third book now and I usually can't read books more than once. I've gotten my friends hooked on Francine Rivers but I haven't been able to get Erin to read them yet. I love photography, reading and I LOVE traveling. Not so much a writer since I tend to ramble (can you tell, lol). I just wanted to say hello because any friend of Erin's is a friend of mine...plus, we're sister's in Christ. Hope you don't think I'm crazy...my body isn't used to the caffeine that I drank during New Years....God bless!

Our congregation has a group on Facebook, and it is a great way for the young and not so young (!) to keep in touch.

We get to hear about the little things, and can encourage each other in those small ways.

However my dh still finds it disconcerting when someone at the bible study asks him if he enjoyed his Irish Stew which I had mentioned on twitter I was making!
